Brentwood's historic buildings include Marygreen Manor, a 16th century building said to have been visited by Henry VIII. It is now a hotel. One of the oldest buildings in Brentwood is the White Hart, believed to have been built in 1480 on the site of a previous Inn, although little remains of historic interest. A chapel was built in the early 13th century, but only its ruins remain. Brentwood Cathedral was originally a parish church built in the gothic style in 1861. It was enlarged and redesigned between 1989-91 in an Italianate Classic style.
